Lakers Coach Makes Feelings About Bronny James Crystal Clear

Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, has had one of the most hyped rookie seasons in NBA history. Being a 55th pick in the draft, his entry into the league was big news as he became the first father-son duo to ever play together in the NBA.

Redick’s High Praise for Bronny

Lakers head coach JJ Redick recently spoke about how impressed he is with Bronny’s ability to handle all the attention that comes with his situation. Speaking to reporters, Redick gave Bronny an A+ for his professionalism and consistency all season.

“I give him an A+. How he’s handled all the attention—good and bad—is amazing,” Redick said to SportsTV and Spectrum SportsNet. “He never breaks character. He’s the same guy every day and he doesn’t let the good or bad attention get to him. He just keeps working.”

Redick said it was clear from the start why Bronny carries himself so well. “The way LeBron and Savannah have raised him was obvious to me from the moment I started spending time with him on the court this summer,” Redick added. “He was going to be an NBA player and I still think he’ll be an NBA player.”

Bronny’s Rookie Season: Stats and Development

Bronny averaged 2.3 points per game shooting, 31.3% from the field and 28.1% from 3 in 27 games. Not exactly eye popping numbers, but when you look at his G League numbers you can see the growth and potential.

Playing for South Bay, the Lakers’ G League affiliate, Bronny shined. In 11 regular season games, he averaged 21.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. His shooting percentages improved big time, 44.3% from the field and 38.0% from 3.

These numbers show Bronny can adapt and thrive in a different environment. He has the tools to succeed at a higher level.

A Special Legacy and Future

At 20 years old, Bronny has already left his mark. Being drafted by the Lakers and playing with his dad, LeBron James, was big news everywhere. But what stands out most is how down to earth Bronny is despite all the attention.

Redick says Bronny’s maturity comes from his upbringing. “LeBron and Savannah have done an amazing job with him,” Redick said. “You can see it in how he approaches the game and life.”

Some thought Bronny didn’t deserve to be on the roster because of where he was drafted. But his hard work and development say he’s earned his spot in the league.

Lakers’ Playoff Run

The Lakers finished the season strong as the 3rd seed in the West with a 50-32 record. They’ll play the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs. Bronny’s role might be limited in the postseason, but his leadership and toughness all year have been big for the team.
