  • NBA Legend Metta World Peace Was Right About Bronny James

NBA Legend Metta World Peace Was Right About Bronny James

When Metta World Peace spoke up about Bronny James early in the 2024-2025 season, everyone thought he was just being positive. But as the season went on, it became clear World Peace wasn’t just being supportive—he was right about the young Lakers rookie.

    Bronny’s Rocky Start

As the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James entered the league under a microscope. Being the son of LeBron James brought excitement and pressure, but early on the spotlight seemed to be crushing the 20-year-old.

In the first few months of the season, Bronny struggled to find his way. His minutes were inconsistent and his impact on the game was minimal. People were questioning if he even belonged in the NBA.

But through it all, Metta World Peace remained firm in his belief in Bronny. In an interview with TMZ on November 17, 2024, he said:

“He’s good. Bronny’s a good player. People can say what they want but at the end of the day he has an NBA body. He’s only 19. Maybe 20… My game went to the next level when I was 24. John Stockton didn’t play for the first two years. I think Bronny deserves it… He’s a rookie… Rookies play in the G League and I think it’s a good thing.”

World Peace’s words meant something, not just because he’s an NBA champion but because he’s mentored young players during their developmental years.

A Turnaround After the New Year

Fast forward to early 2025 and Bronny is starting to show why the Lakers drafted him. March 21, 2025 he had a breakout game against the Milwaukee Bucks:

    • 17 points
    • 5 assists
    • 3 rebounds
    • 7/10 from the field
    • 2/4 from three

This shut up some of the critics and proved Bronny had more to offer than people thought.

    G League Dominance

Bronny’s NBA minutes were still limited but he was making waves in the G League where he was consistently showing his potential. According to @NBAStatGuy_ on March 25, 2025 among players 20 or younger (min 5 games) Bronny was:

    • 1st in ppg
    • 1st in assists
    • 1st in steals
    • 2nd in defrtg
    • 3rd in TS%

These numbers show Bronny’s growth and ability to adapt to pro ball. They also validate World Peace’s early confidence in him.

    Why World Peace Was Right

Metta World Peace knew something that many didn’t: development takes time. Bronny’s journey wasn’t going to be defined by his first few games or even his first season. It’s been about steady improvement and learning how to thrive in the NBA.

World Peace’s own career mirrors this philosophy. He didn’t become an All-Star overnight – it took years of hard work and patience. By having Bronny go through the process including stints in the G League World Peace is showing him a path to success.

    What’s Next for Bronny?

With his recent performances Bronny has proven he belongs in the NBA conversation. He may not be a star yet but his progress shows he can carve out a role for himself in the league.

LeBron’s presence on the Lakers has definitely helped Bronny adjust to the pros but it’s his own determination and skill set that will define his future.

  • Former Lakers Star Byron Scott Accused of Sexual Assault in 1987

Former Lakers Star Byron Scott Accused of Sexual Assault in 1987

The sports world is reeling after a lawsuit was filed against former Los Angeles Lakers star and coach Byron Scott, accusing him of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl during a team event at her high school in 1987. The allegations have brought renewed attention to accountability for past actions, even decades later.

    The Allegations Against Byron Scott

According to court documents, the alleged incident occurred during a visit by the Lakers to Campbell Hall High School in Los Angeles. The victim, who was attending summer classes at the time, claims Scott sexually assaulted her in a locked janitor’s closet in the school’s gymnasium.

The lawsuit accuses Scott, then 26 years old, of sexual battery and false imprisonment. Filed under a California law that temporarily allowed older cases involving underage plaintiffs to proceed, the complaint initially shielded Scott’s identity. However, a judge ruled last August that he could be publicly named, and an amended version of the lawsuit was filed on May 1.

Scott’s attorney, Linda Bauermeister, issued a statement saying her client does not deny that sexual contact occurred but insists he believed the girl was of legal age.

“Our client is devastated by this complaint,” Bauermeister said. “Our client believed the plaintiff to be over 18 and had no idea she would claim otherwise until 35 years later. He respects girls and women, and the claims have blindsided him and his family.”

    The Context of the Incident

The alleged assault reportedly took place in the summer of 1987 when the Lakers visited Campbell Hall High to film an instructional basketball video. During their stay, players interacted with students, parents, and faculty members. It was during this visit that the victim says Scott lured her into the gym’s janitor’s closet before assaulting her.

At the time, Scott was married to his first wife, Anita Scott, with whom he had three children. They divorced in 2014. Scott is now remarried to Cece Gutierrez, known for her appearances on the reality show Basketball Wives .

Campbell Hall High School Also Named in Lawsuit

In addition to Scott, the lawsuit names Campbell Hall High School, accusing its officials of negligence for failing to protect the victim. The suit demands a jury trial and seeks over $25,000 in damages, including compensation for loss of earnings and attorney fees.

A message seeking comment from school officials has been sent, but no response has been received as of this writing.

    Byron Scott’s Legacy in Basketball

Byron Scott’s career with the Lakers spanned much of the iconic “Showtime” era, during which he won NBA championships in 1985, 1987, and 1988. As a shooting guard, he led the team in scoring during the 1987-88 season with a career-high average of 21.7 points per game.

After retiring as a player, Scott transitioned into coaching, leading teams such as the New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets. He later returned to the Lakers as head coach, mentoring young stars like Kobe Bryant. Currently, Scott is coaching in the Philippines, continuing his involvement in the sport.

  • Luka Doncic on Lakers Fans Reaction to His Arrival

Luka Doncic on Lakers Fans Reaction to His Arrival

When Luka Doncic joined the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade three months ago, the NBA world was shook. Fans were stoked to see one of the league’s brightest stars in purple and gold, but there was an underlying question: How would Lakers fans really treat him? Now that the dust has settled and the team is out of the playoffs, Doncic is opening up about his experience so far—and it’s not what some might have expected.

Lakers Fans Welcome Him with Open Arms

Despite initial concerns about how he’d be received, Luka Doncic says the love from Lakers fans has been overwhelming. In a recent interview with Silver Screen and Roll , he talked about the warm reception he’s gotten since arriving in LA.

“I mean, it’s been great, honestly,” Doncic said. “The way the fans accepted me, it’s been amazing. The way the community accepted me, it’s been amazing. I’m really glad that I’m here.”

Doncic also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play for such a legendary franchise. He admitted it hasn’t been easy adjusting to life in LA but he’s doing everything he can to get to know the city, learn about the culture and be part of the Lakers family.

    Doncic’s Off-Court Impact

It’s not just his on court performance that’s winning over Lakers fans—it’s also his off court contributions. Since joining the team, Doncic has shown he’s committed to giving back to the LA community.

He donated $500,000 to support wildfire relief efforts in the LA area, helping those affected by the natural disasters. He also gave $5,000 to restore a vandalized mural of Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant, a move that resonated with Lakers fans who love the late legend.

These actions have only strengthened the bond between Doncic and the fanbase, proving he’s more than just a basketball player—he’s someone who cares about the people around him.

What’s Next for Doncic and the Lakers?

The season may be over but all eyes are on Luka Doncic’s future with the Lakers. August 2nd, he’ll be eligible to sign a 4 year $229 million extension. Or he can sign a shorter deal with a player option and set himself up for a “supermax” extension in 2028.

For now though, Doncic seems focused on building a legacy in LA.

“I had a great couple of months,” he said. “Been trying to learn about everything, about the city, about the team. So, just trying to process everything.”

He’s saying he’s committed to making this work—not for himself but for the fans and the franchise too.

  • Mike Bresnahan Just Dropped His Lakers Free Agency Wishlist

Mike Bresnahan Just Dropped His Lakers Free Agency Wishlist

The Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves wasn’t just a wake up call—it was a bright light on their roster weaknesses. With their season over, all eyes are now on GM Rob Pelinka and what he’ll do to fix the huge hole at center. On the Lakeshow podcast, Lakers expert Mike Bresnahan shared his free agency wishlist and it’s clear where he thinks the team should focus: Myles Turner and Naz Reid.

Why the Lakers Need a New Center?

Anyone who watched the Lakers-Timberwolves series knows the issue, size matters in the NBA, and the Lakers were tiny. Pelinka has already said upgrading at center is the top priority this offseason. Whether through free agency or trades, the Lakers need someone who can protect the rim, space the floor and be physical in the paint. Enter Myles Turner and Naz Reid.

    Myles Turner: The Rim Protector

Myles Turner is the exact kind of player Rob Pelinka was talking about when he described the ideal center for the Lakers. He’s one of the league’s top shot blockers and averaged 2.2 blocks per game in the first round of the playoffs. But he’s not just a defender – he can also stretch the floor with his shooting and hit corner threes consistently.

Turner would fit in LA seamlessly. He’s not a dominant lob threat, but he’s a perfect complement to Anthony Davis. And after making $20 million this season, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. If the Lakers can get him, they’d instantly upgrade the frontcourt.

Naz Reid: A Twist of Fate?

Bringing Naz Reid to the Lakers feels like karma after the Timberwolves eliminated them from the playoffs. Reid showed his value in that series and proved he can thrive in big moments. He can block shots, hit threes (he’s 50% from deep in the playoffs), and play physical basketball. He’s an attractive option.

Reid has a $15 million player option for next season, but don’t be surprised if he opts out to get a bigger deal. Multiple teams will chase him hard, but the Lakers can make a strong pitch with their championship pedigree and superstar appeal.

How Naz Reid and Myles Turner Compare?

Both players bring something unique to the table, and their playoff performances speak volumes:

    • Naz Reid:
      • 50% three-point shooting
      • Versatile defender with shot-blocking ability
      • Physical presence in the paint
    • Myles Turner:
      • 2.2 blocks per game in the playoffs
      • Floor-spacing big man with consistent shooting
      • Playoff-tested experience

Both players have been efficient, scoring above 50% from the field, and would give the Lakers much-needed size and rim protection.

    The Lakers’ Offseason Strategy

The Lakers’ offseason strategy is all about finding the right pieces to complement LeBron James. Free agency will be a major focus, but not the only one. That means exploring trades for stars who can give the team a real boost. Turner and Reid are two realistic options that stand out as just that: low-risk investments with high potential rewards.

With LeBron not getting any younger, the stakes are high. The window to compete for another championship is closing fast. What could make the difference between another early exit and a deep playoff run is a reliable center. That’s what Rob Pelinka is working to secure.

  • LeBron James Spotted in High Spirits After Lakers Playoff Elimination

LeBron James Spotted in High Spirits After Lakers Playoff Elimination

Just hours after the Lakers were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, LeBron James wasn’t pouting—far from it. The 40-year-old was spotted leaving Wally’s Beverly Hills around 4:00 a.m. looking like he was celebrating rather than mourning. He was dressed head to toe in Louis Vuitton and smiling big. LeBron looked relaxed and happy despite the Lakers’ 103-96 Game 5 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He was with a tight group of friends including his longtime friend and super agent Rich Paul and close friend Corey Gamble. They had been at Crypto.com Arena earlier that night watching the Lakers fall short. According to TMZ Sports, he had a big water bottle and a back cushion with him as he walked to his car. He seemed totally unfazed by the series ending loss.

    On-Court vs. Off-Court

Even though the Lakers got eliminated, LeBron had a good individual game in Game 5 with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists. But the team’s lack of size and consistency was too much for the deeper and more balanced Timberwolves.

Off the court, though, LeBron’s reaction said it all. As TMZ put it: “Win or lose, we still booze.” I don’t know what went down at his postgame party, but it seemed more like a party than a wake.

Some fans didn’t like the lighthearted tone, especially since Lakers Nation gets so invested after a playoff exit. But LeBron’s attitude was a reminder that life and legacy goes on. With four championships, four MVPs and countless records, a first round exit doesn’t sting as much for someone who has accomplished so much in his career.

    Coping Mechanism or Confidence?

Wine, laughter and friends may have been LeBron’s way of coping with the loss—or maybe it was just his view on life and basketball. At 40 years old LeBron is already in the top 5 of all time NBA players. For him the highs and lows of a season are just part of the journey.

Still the spotlight is on James even after a playoff elimination. His ability to stay positive in the face of adversity is a testament to his mental toughness and experience.

    Retirement Rumors Spark Debate

Adding fuel to the fire, retirement rumors started circulating after the Lakers loss. But the King himself hasn’t hinted at hanging up his sneakers anytime soon. At 40, LeBron is still defying Father Time and it seems he has a few more seasons left in him.

For now, fans can take comfort in knowing LeBron isn’t letting this setback get him down. Whether he’s sipping wine with friends or preparing for another NBA title run, one thing is for sure: LeBron James is far from done.

  • Shaquille O’Neal Makes His Feelings Clear About the Lakers in 2025

Shaquille O’Neal Makes His Feelings Clear About the Lakers in 2025

Few people in the NBA get more respect and attention than Shaquille O’Neal. The Hall of Famer who dominated the league in his prime recently didn’t hold back when talking about the Los Angeles Lakers.

After their first round playoff exit to the Minnesota Timberwolves, O’Neal went off on his former team and it’s got everyone talking.

    O’Neal’s Take on the Lakers

Shaq is always honest so he didn’t mince words about his old team. On TNT after the Lakers got eliminated from the playoffs he said:

“Even though they have two of the top players on their team, let’s just keep it real. They’re not good enough and it’s unfortunate they’re gonna be like this for a while. They’re not gonna make any moves this summer. They gotta pay two guys $50 million and up. Get used to this because when you have players of that caliber it’s championship or bust.”

He’s frustrated with the Lakers not being able to compete at an elite level with all that talent. O’Neal thinks the franchise is stuck financially and can’t build a team around their stars.

    Fan Reactions: Divided Opinions

Unsurprisingly, O’Neal’s remarks ignited a flurry of reactions from Lakers fans and NBA enthusiasts across social media platforms. Here’s what some had to say:

    • @Sahrkazum: “They need to just release LeBron. He isn’t good anymore and is way overpaid.”
This fan echoed Shaq’s sentiment, suggesting that age and salary are weighing down the Lakers.
    • @CoolHandMe33: “I love the TNT crew. They’re fun and entertaining. But when they talk basketball, it’s just silly. That goes for just about all NBA media though.”
Others dismissed Shaq’s take, arguing that media personalities often oversimplify complex situations.
    • @FranklyAlive_: “Shaq has lost it when it comes to NBA takes, I don’t even listen to anything he says anymore. All yap.”
Critics pointed out that O’Neal’s opinions aren’t always well-received these days, citing past instances where his analysis missed the mark.
    • @han64compuserve: “Shaq doesn’t know anything. He didn’t even know Chauncey Billups wasn’t the coach for the Pistons. They are definitely trading Dalton and probably Reaves after his no-show in the playoffs. I don’t agree with it, but they need help bad in the middle.”

Some went further, questioning O’Neal’s credibility while speculating about potential roster changes for the Lakers.

The Financial Reality Behind Shaq’s Comments

One of the main points O’Neal made was the Lakers’ financial situation. With multiple high paid players on the roster, flexibility is limited. Paying two players $50 million or more a year leaves little room for upgrades elsewhere. And to make matters worse, both LeBron and AD have been injury prone and inconsistent the last few years.

For a team that’s used to winning, not winning year after year creates pressure not just on the players but on management to find solutions without breaking the bank.

    A Legacy Defined by Championships

Shaq’s comments carry weight because of his Lakers legacy. He won three championships with the Lakers from 1996 to 2004 alongside Kobe. Those years are forever etched in NBA history as one of the greatest dynasties ever.

But times have changed since then. Today’s Lakers face different challenges, including navigating the modern cap and managing egos in the locker room. For Shaq, watching his old team struggle must be especially painful, given how used to winning he is.

Looking Ahead: Can the Lakers Turn It Around?

While O’Neal’s words may hurt, they’re a harsh reality: the Lakers are at a crossroads. Whether through trades, free agency, or developing young talent, the organization needs to address its weaknesses. Fans will debate whether Shaq is right, but there’s no denying the urgency for change.

Will the Lakers listen to Shaq and make big moves this offseason? Or will they stay status quo and be limited by their own contracts? Only time will tell.

  • Lakers Drop Shocking Injury News Ahead of Game 5

Lakers Drop Shocking Injury News Ahead of Game 5

The Los Angeles Lakers have a surprise for us before Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. Forward Maxi Kleber, who has been out since January 25 with a right foot surgery, is upgraded to questionable and could make his Lakers debut tonight.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Kleber’s return comes at a perfect time for the Lakers who are down 3-1 in the series and need a win to avoid elimination. If he plays, it will be his first time in a Lakers uniform since he was acquired in the Luka Doncic trade.

Kleber played the first 7 1/2 seasons of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks and was a stretch-four known for his shooting. This season he averaged 3.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 34 games before his injury. His stats aren’t impressive but his floor spacing could be a big boost to the Lakers’ bench.

A Coaching Connection: JJ Redick’s Familiar Faces

Another layer of fun is that 5 current Lakers have played with head coach JJ Redick in their careers. Here are the 5:

    • Luka Doncic (2021 Mavericks)
    • Dorian Finney-Smith (2021 Mavericks)
    • Maxi Kleber (2021 Mavericks)
    • Shake Milton (2019 Philadelphia 76ers)
    • Jaxson Hayes (2020 New Orleans Pelicans)

Redick took over as head coach midseason and now has a roster full of familiar faces. This has led to questions about how these connections will impact team chemistry and performance under pressure.

What Kleber Brings to the Table?

If he plays, Kleber could be a game-changer for the Lakers. He can stretch the floor with 3 point shooting and create space for Luka and LeBron to operate in the paint. Defensively, he can guard multiple positions and counter Minnesota’s athleticism. But there are concerns about how effective he’ll be after such a long layoff. Foot injuries can linger and it’s unclear how quickly he’ll get his rhythm back in playoff basketball.

Even limited minutes from Kleber could be a spark and some fresh options for the Lakers as they try to extend their season.

Game 5: Do-or-Die for the Lakers

Wednesday’s game at Crypto.com Arena is a crossroads for the Lakers. A loss ends their season, a win forces a Game 6 back in Minnesota on Friday. With their backs against the wall, every player, and every decision matters.

The Timberwolves have the edge going into Game 5, but the Lakers hope Kleber’s possible return and the desperation of being eliminated can flip the script. Fans will be watching to see if Kleber plays and what he can do in his Lakers debut.

    Looking Ahead: The Bigger Picture

Whoever wins this series goes to face the Golden State Warriors or the Houston Rockets in the next round. The Warriors are up 3-1 in that series, so they’re one win away from advancing. For the Lakers, extending their season starts with winning Game 5, and Kleber’s status could be the deciding factor.

  • Did Redick Just Predict the Lakers Comeback in Game 5?

Did Redick Just Predict the Lakers Comeback in Game 5?

The Los Angeles Lakers are in trouble after losing Game 4 to the Minnesota Timberwolves and falling behind 3-1 in the first round series. The game was close but poor decisions and missed opportunities hurt the Lakers.

Coach JJ Redick stuck with the same 5 players the entire 2nd half and fatigue set in and they blew a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter. And to make matters worse a crucial missed call at the end of the game (acknowledged by the NBA in their official 2 minute report) denied Luka Doncic a chance to put the Lakers up from the free throw line.

Now the Lakers are in a do or die situation in Game 5 at Crypto.com Arena. With their backs against the wall Redick had a blunt message for his team during a media session on April 29.

“I would describe us as ‘on edge’ as we should be,” Redick said, per Mike Trudell of Spectrum. “We have to play with a sense of desperation.”

    LeBron James’ Heroics Aren’t Enough

LeBron James has been incredible in this series but it’s not enough to carry the Lakers over the top. Over the first 4 games he’s averaging 26.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists. He’s still 40.

In Games 3 and 4 he’s taken it up a notch. 38 points in each game and contributing on both ends of the floor. In Game 4 he added 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals and made several big defensive plays down the stretch. But a costly turnover at the end of the game sealed the Lakers fate and gave the Timberwolves the win and the series lead.

Luka Doncic: The Key to a Comeback

If the Lakers are going to make a miracle comeback Luka Doncic will have to be the one to do it. Despite being sick in Game 3 Doncic has been the team’s leading scorer averaging 30.8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists over the first 4 games. He’s scored 30+ in 3 of those games and has shown he can take over when needed.

But, Doncic’s impact hasn’t been just scoring. His playmaking and leadership has kept the Lakers in it even when the odds are against them. For the Lakers to force a Game 6 and potentially a Game 7 they’ll need Doncic to take it up another level and be the spark for the turnaround.

    Can the Lakers Come Back?

Winning three in a row against a younger, more athletic Timberwolves team is no easy feat, especially with the Lakers’ roster and reliance on old stars like James and Doncic. But history shows teams down 3-1 are not out of it. A sense of urgency and desperation can bring out performances no one expected and Redick is trying to get that into his team.

Game 5 at home is the Lakers’ chance to extend the series and get some momentum. But, they’ll need everyone not just James and Doncic to win. Role players gotta step up and the coaching staff gotta make smarter rotations to not burn out the starters.

    What’s Next for the Lakers?

For the Lakers it’s simple: win Game 5 and put the pressure back on Minnesota. If Redick’s message gets to his players they could turn their desperation into a gritty, inspired performance on Wednesday.

But time is running out and the margin for error is slim. Will Redick’s words light a fire under the Lakers or will the Timberwolves close it out? Only time will tell.

  • Could LeBron James Play with Both Sons on the Lakers?

Could LeBron James Play with Both Sons on the Lakers?

LeBron James already has his name etched in NBA history alongside his oldest son Bronny, when, they played together in an official game back in 2024. Now whispers are growing that he might extend his career even further to play with his youngest son Bryce who is committed to play for the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA for the 2025/26 season.

Rachel Nichols recently weighed in on the possibility on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. She said this could be one of LeBron’s ultimate bucket list goals before he retires for good.

“You’ve got his younger son Bryce who’s going to Arizona next year,” Nichols said. “And then potentially in the league the next year. There’s a lot of people who think he’s better than Bronny was at that age and maybe he’ll stick around.”

If LeBron can stay healthy and motivated playing with both sons on the Los Angeles Lakers could be sooner than we think.

How Luka Doncic Makes This Possible?

One of the biggest factors that will allow LeBron to extend his career, and possibly make room for Bryce, is Luka Doncic. The Slovenian superstar joined the Lakers in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, swapping places with Anthony Davis. Since coming to LA, Doncic has fit in seamlessly and is averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists per game.

Doncic’s arrival hasn’t just added firepower to the Lakers’ offense; it’s also taken some pressure off LeBron. No longer the only one who has to carry the team, LeBron has been getting more rest minutes and days off. This could be huge in extending his career by easing the wear and tear on his knees and tired muscles.

As Nichols said, “What if because Luka’s on this team, LeBron can extend his career a few years? What if he gets two more?”

With Doncic shouldering most of the offense, LeBron can realistically play at a high level into his 40s, long enough to have Bryce on the roster.

Bryce James: The Next Big Thing?

Bronny made headlines as the first James to enter the NBA, but Bryce is considered the more talented of the two, at least for now. Scouts rave about his athleticism, skill set and basketball IQ and say he could be a top prospect like his dad.

After committing to Arizona for the 2025/26 season, Bryce will likely declare for the NBA draft shortly after. If the Lakers can get his rights through the draft or trade, the stage would be set for a family affair on the court.

Will the James Trio Make History?

The idea of LeBron, Bronny and Bryce on the court together sounds crazy but given LeBron’s determination and longevity, it’s not impossible. At 41 years old, LeBron is still defying Father Time and proving age is just a number when you’re as driven as he is.

For now, we’ll be watching Bryce at Arizona and how long LeBron plays. If everything falls into place, the right draft picks, good team chemistry and health—it could be the James trio in Lakers jerseys soon.

  • Tilman Fertitta Goes Off on Mavericks, Calls Out Nico Harrison in Luka Drama

Tilman Fertitta Goes Off on Mavericks, Calls Out Nico Harrison in Luka Drama

The NBA world is chirping again as Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta joined the growing list of people who are bashing the Dallas Mavericks and GM Nico Harrison for the Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. He made the comments at an event celebrating the University of Houston Men’s Basketball team for their run to the National Championship Game—a place where basketball talk is always flowing.

But instead of sticking to college hoops, Fertitta went off script and into the world of professional drama, using his platform to roast the Mavericks for one of the wildest trades in recent history.

Fertitta Takes a Jab at the Mavericks’ Trade Logic

Three months have passed since the Mavericks traded away franchise superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers and the fallout is still making waves. Fans are still fuming with how it all went down under Nico Harrison’s leadership, especially after the team didn’t make the playoffs this season after losing in the Play-In Tournament to the Memphis Grizzlies.

During last week’s end-of-season press conference, Harrison dropped a bombshell that reignited the criticism. When asked about the fan reaction to trading Doncic, he said:

“I did know Luka was important to the fanbase but I didn’t know it to what level,” Harrison said. “But really, the way we looked at it is if we put a team on the floor that’s Kyrie [Irving], Klay [Thompson], PJ [Washington], Anthony Davis, and [Dereck] Lively, we feel that’s a championship team and we would’ve been winning at a high level and that would’ve quieted some of the outrage. Unfortunately we weren’t able to do that so it just continued to go on and on.”

This didn’t help calm down the upset Mavs fans or silence Fertitta.

Fertitta’s Comments at the White House Spark Laughter and Controversy

At the Houston Cougars basketball celebration, Fertitta told a story from his recent trip to the White House. He was in the Oval Office with President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and sports came up in the conversation.

“I was in the White House in the Oval Office with the Prime Minister of Italy and the President last Thursday and we talked about the Houston Cougars,” Fertitta said. “I can promise you, for at least a minute and a half.”

He paused for a beat before adding with a grin:

“And then we talked about that Luka Doncic trade [to the Lakers] that Dallas did.”

If you listen closely to the video you’ll hear Fertitta mispronounce Doncic’s name as “Luke Doncha”. Unintentionally funny, but it shows how everyone is still scratching their head about that trade.

People are still wondering how the Mavericks could send Doncic – one of the best young players in the NBA – to the Lakers without getting Austin Reaves back. Fertitta is one of them.

Should Fertitta Focus on His Own Team?

While poking fun at the Mavericks’ expense might be entertaining, Fertitta’s timing has raised eyebrows. The Rockets are currently locked in a heated first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. After dropping Game 1 at home, Houston finds itself in danger of falling behind 0-2 heading into Wednesday night’s Game 2—all while playing on their home court.

Some observers argue that Fertitta should focus more energy on rallying his own team rather than critiquing another franchise’s decisions. Still, his playful jab adds fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding the Mavericks’ controversial move.
